Mary Bigalow was an introspective artist, very sensitive to her physical surroundings. She executed serene pastoral scenes in small sketches out in nature. This work depicts a spot on the Sugar River in Newport, New Hampshire. Her fine calculated stroke gives credence to her love for her town and to her art in general.
