Sitting at a rustic wood table, the bored-looking man is a typical example of a 1980's Canadian, spending a winter day in the country. His boredom is not a reflection of his personality, but rather the long hours of sitting still for such a realistic portrait, which could almost be defined as super realism, were it not for the vigorous brush strokes in the background. His red jacked is so well defined that we feel its' warmth, as well as that of his beaver fur cap (hat). The pose is relaxed and his hands are deftly painted by the artist's brush, revealing the long tapering fingers of someone who plays an instrument, such as the guitar, piano or both. M.G.
