Gyzis was one of the most interesting and influential artists of the nineteenth century. He depicts historical and contemporary scenes of human interaction, done in a classical style of the munich school. The personification of the glory of psara, this was done to commemorate the slaughter of this aegean islanders by the ottoman Turks in 1824.
