An interesting painting! This is a view of an old, sun beaten, part of town. What strikes the artistic eye however, is not the town, but the composition of the work. The canvas is split down the middle; on the left is a cypress tree and on the right, a minaret. This is a divided city between Christians and Muslims; the only one in Europe.
