Sydney Berne, whose real name was Sydney Bernstein, was an accomplished engraver, who loved to paint the Quebec landscape. His tones are muted and his dark tones and the dainty treatment of the subject matter is in keeping with realism and the fauvism prevailing in the 1950s.
