Upon landing in Canada in the early fifties, Rhyn could not, but be influenced by the group of seven, and in particular, Tom Thompson. The forest scenes are quite similar. This is a late autumn work where the bare tree trunks dominate under the firs. In between and perfectly camouflaged, we note a group of white tailed deer, moving with caution. Rhyn, a recent arrival from France, quickly accustomed himself to his new environment and, painted Canada at its best .
