Artists of Rhyn's era would often deviate from their regular technique and try alternative ways of painting. Rhyn is no exception and, in this work, he appears to dabble with a more primitive style. The drawing may look simple, but the colour is not. What we witness is the fact that the artist cannot escape from his impressionist past. Hence, this painting is a play of the complementary colours of the green trees, the red houses and the street.
