The large tree, painted in black and white, is very different from Rhyn’s treatment of other trees. Usually, his trees are full of colour and very bright. Perhaps, he tried in this work to show how cold and uninviting winter could be. Perhaps, he tried to bring out the strength and endurance features of the tree. What he did achieve however, was to capture the mood of a desolate winter evening.
