Winter carries its hazards, and is often brutal on trees. Rhyn was very drawn to the wonder of the world of trees. He painted them with a passion, year round. In this scene, the atmosphere is captured well. We see bruised and broken trees that have failed to give in and break. The barn in the back appears abandoned, and the day is dull and grey, as it often is outside of Ottawa.
