Description:

Rhyn loved to paint trees in plain air, and in a very realistic style. The work we see in this painting is highly metaphorical. We see stylized green trees. The brush strokes are in turmoil, which on first impression, gives a dramatic atmosphere. On careful analysis however, we become perplexed. Various faces appear hidden in the foliage. A little boy, looking perplexed, can be seen in the middle lower opening, while the face of the devil is in the upper left quadrant. Was the artist just having fun, or could this message be apocalyptic?
