A master in portrait painting. Scott brought from Scotland a tradition of romantic realism. After serving in the armed forces in World War I, he formed his own school of painting. As a teacher of art, Scott used a much acclaimed approach to painting, doing murals of Canadian historical events. In 1920 Scott spent six years living with the Inuit and depicted numerous scenes of their lives.
