The synthesis of composition in the foreground using shadow, combined with the swirling tree branches and with the moving background of the mountain results in a balanced symphony of form. Scott was able, on canvas, not only to paint an extraordinary work depicting natural beauty, but also to create a scene of poetic, and musical rhythm resulting from the proper use of form shape and colour.
